Efforts to assess the impact of development interventions in Cross River State gained momentum on Monday as Governor Bassey Edet Otu received a joint National Assembly Committee overseeing the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in Calabar.

The lawmakers, drawn from both the Senate and the House of Representatives, are in the state to review ongoing projects, with a focus on their effectiveness, transparency, and contribution to local development.

The exercise is expected to provide insight into how well NDDC initiatives are addressing community needs.

Governor Otu welcomed the delegation and praised their commitment to accountability, stressing that consistent oversight is essential to ensuring that development projects deliver meaningful benefits to the people.

The Governor said, “Let me begin by warmly welcoming this distinguished delegation and expressing my sincere appreciation for your presence here today.”

“Your efforts, oversight, and commitment do not go unnoticed,” the governor added, emphasizing the importance of legislative scrutiny in strengthening public institutions and governance outcomes.

Otu further noted that the visit would further enhance collaboration between federal institutions and subnational governments, stressing that such engagements are vital for improving service delivery.

“What you are doing gives us encouragement and strengthens our own resolve to do better,” he stated.

He described committees of the National Assembly as “critical instruments of accountability and progress,” adding that their work reinforces transparency and trust in governance processes.
