Brentford compound Liverpool's misery at Gtech Stadium

LONDON (CONVERSEER) – Brentford have compounded more misery on Liverpool following the Bees’ 3-2 win at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday.

Liverpool went into the game on the back of three consecutive Premier League defeats and could not boast of the performance which won them the league last season.

The Champions conceded in the opening five minutes when Dango Ouattara gave Brentford the lead through Michael Kayode’s long throw.

The Bees added a second in the 45th minute after Kevin Schade calmly slotted home Mikel Damsgaard’s delicate pass.

Milos Kerkez then pulled one back in the stoppage time (45+5′) of the first half as Brentford players felt referee Simon Hooper would have stopped the game after three minutes of added time. The referee was replaced in the second half with what looked like a hamstring injury.

The Bees stung the Reds further when Igor Thiago converted a penalty in the 60th minute after Virgil van Dijk was adjudged to have fouled Ouattara in the box.

Mohamed Salah then reduced the deficit for Liverpool in the 89th minute with a thunderous strike but it wasn’t enough as Brentford held on to win 3-2.

The loss means Liverpool have now lost four consecutive games in the Premier League for the first time since 2008. The Reds have also lost five of their last six games, with the only win coming against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League midweek.

The Champions now sit six on the log with 15 points and could go down to eight if Tottenham and Crystal Palace win their games in hand.

Brentford, on the other hand, have now moved from 15th to 10th with 13 points.

Two former Liverpool players, Jordan Henderson and Caoimhin Kelleher, played the entire game for Brentford.
