ABUJA (CONVERSEER) – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) State Caucus in Cross River has endorsed the Venatius Ikem–led State Working Committee (SWC) for a second term, while introducing new accountability measures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a communiqué issued after its meeting in Abuja on Sunday, 31 August 2025, the caucus resolved that members of the SWC whose tenure expires in September should remain in office for another four years to ensure continuity and stability. It also endorsed local government executives for fresh terms.

The caucus, however, directed that any local government area dissatisfied with its executive representation may initiate a replacement process. It further mandated LGAs whose representatives have defected to other political parties to nominate credible replacements without delay.

The communiqué was jointly signed by Venatius Ikem, State Chairman; Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, Leader of the Party in the state; and Mike Ojisi, Publicity Secretary. It commended the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the PDP for reforms aimed at repositioning the party to reclaim power in 2027.

Party leaders urged members to remain united, disciplined, and loyal, stressing the importance of grassroots mobilisation and stronger communication channels to rebuild public confidence.

Those present at the meeting included Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, House of Representatives member Godwin Offiono, the party’s 2023 governorship candidate Senator Sandy Onor, and former Deputy Governor Effiok Cobham.

Meanwhile, the PDP national leadership has scheduled local government congresses for 13 September and state congresses for 27 September across the country.
