Community Leaders Pass Vote of Confidence on Lawmaker After Scorecard Presentation

Stakeholders from the seven political wards of Yala Nkum, Ofutop 1 & 2, Ikom Urban 1 & 2, Olulumo, and Akparabong in Ikom 1 State Constituency have called for a second term for Cross River State House of Assembly member, Mr Samuel Neji-Abang.

The stakeholders “expressed satisfaction with the performance of the lawmaker” during a stakeholders meeting held at Rossylight Hotel in Ikom local government area yesterday.

After presentation of his scorecard, the community leaders lauded the lawmaker’s “dedication to hardwork, accessibility, and visible impact” which they claimed had brought succour to his constituents.

Stakeholders called for his return for a second term to enable him to continue with the lofty projects and programmes he initiated across the constituency.

Commissioner for the State Planning Commission and chairman of the constituency stakeholders meeting, Dr Bassey Okim, backed the call and appealed for the lawmaker’s support to enable him to return to office.

He said it was wise for the lawmaker to return to the Assembly for a second term given the “kind of impact which he created in his first term.”

The resolution followed a motion moved by Mr Kasetimantui Ayiba, Councillor representing Ikom Urban 2 in the Ikom Legislative Assembly, and seconded by Hon Njang Ndoma, Councillor representing Ikom Urban 1.

While outlining the developmental strides recorded by the lawmaker, Okim a former state security Adviser to former governor Liyel Imoke further outlined “developmental strides made across critical sectors” in the constituency.

He reaffirmed the lawmaker’s commitment to “delivering people-oriented leadership” for Ikom 1.

The meeting served as a platform for a comprehensive “scorecard” of Abang’s performance and attracted the “creme de la creme” across the seven wards.

While reeling out his achievements, Abang highlighted key achievements, to include the execution of ongoing water scheme projects across various wards, and his approach to effective representation” across the constituency.

The stakeholders again “expressed strong satisfaction with his performance,” commending his “dedication, accessibility, and visible impact.”

In his remarks, the lawmaker promised to push for stronger oversight of state MDAs to ensure projects allocated to his constituency are completed on time and on budget.

He also promised to institutionalise quarterly town hall meetings across the wards under Ikom 1 for feedback before Assembly sessions.

“I’ll create a public dashboard to track constituency project implementation to provide succour to my constituents” he said.

Prominent speakers at the meeting included the President General of Ekpache Nkom Socio-political group, Chief Francis Bojor Ndifon aka Ogbana.

In a show of confidence and unity,” the stakeholders overwhelmingly endorsed his continued leadership and “gave their full support for continuity.

The gathering ended on a positive and forward-looking note,” reinforcing a shared vision for “sustained progress and inclusive development in Ikom 1 State Constituency.
