MAKURDI (CONVERSEER) – Hon. Alfred Emberga Berger has emerged as the new speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly.
Hon. Berger is a member representing Makurdi North State Constituency.
His emergence followed the resignation of the former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dojah, on Sunday, 24th August 2025.
Recall that Dojah resigned as the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, citing good faith and the interest of the state as the reason for his decision.
“This is done in good faith and in the best interest of the state.
“I want to appreciate my dear colleagues for the opportunity they gave me to be the first among equals,” a handwritten letter signed by Dojah on Sunday read in part.
Feelers alleged that Governor Hyacinth Alia is responsible for Dojah’s resignation.
Governor Alia, however, has refuted the claim of influencing the purported removal of Dajoh, noting that, “I have tremendous respect for the legislature.”
