CALABAR (CONVERSEER) – Former Senator Representing Cross River State Southern Senatorial District, Gershom Bassey, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The 2023 governorship aspirant dumped the party in July.
In a statement on 24th July 2025, Bassey boasted about the party’s achievements in the state from 1999 to date.
“It’s been a blast being a founding member of PDP. I’m proud of all our accomplishments.
“We produced 3 two-term Governors, numerous Senators and members of the House of Representatives, many House of Assembly Members, Local Government Area Chairmen and Councillors.
“We impacted positively on Cross River State…but it looks like the vehicle is broken and is not ready to redeem itself.
“Best wishes my dear brothers and sisters,” a statement signed by Bassey read.

Converseer reports that former Governor Liyel Imoke is already in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and is galvanising strongly for the party in the state.
Will Bassey join Imoke in ADC? Since they are political allies.
