ANFIELD (CONVERSEER) – Liverpool forward Alexander Isak has stressed that “hard work and working on details” will be crucial for the Reds to recover from their current poor run of form when club football resumes after the international break.
Arne Slot’s side suffered their third straight defeat on Saturday, losing 2-1 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in a dramatic Premier League encounter. Moises Caicedo’s early strike put the hosts ahead before Cody Gakpo levelled in the second half. However, a 96th-minute winner from Estevao condemned Liverpool to another late setback.
The result followed defeats away to Crystal Palace and Galatasaray, leaving the Merseyside club searching for a response with two weeks before their next fixture.
Isak, who made his fourth start since arriving on deadline day, reflected on the match and outlined how Liverpool can turn things around.
“I think we started off pretty badly and we worked our way into the game pretty well. We came out second half and really gave everything to get a result. In the end, it’s obviously tough conceding in the last minute like that,” he told Liverpoolfc.com post-match.
The Sweden international explained that half-time discussions focused on tightening their pressing and exploiting spaces to create more opportunities. He acknowledged the frustration of conceding late goals in recent matches but believes the team must channel that emotion positively.
“In the same way that winning like this is the best feeling, it’s the worst to lose in this type of way. It’s pretty normal. We just have to keep working hard, bounce back and get back to winning ways,” he said.
Isak dismissed suggestions that momentum would only return after the next win, insisting belief within the squad remains strong.
“I think the belief is there that we can. This team has shown that many times. It’s never easy of course, but hard work and working on details and getting back to our best – we have that belief,” he added.
The forward also noted he is steadily regaining full fitness after joining the club, adding that he remains optimistic about the remainder of the season.
Liverpool will return to action after the international break with a high-profile clash against Manchester United, a fixture Isak says he is “really excited” for, stressing the need to improve “game by game” to achieve the team’s ambitions.
