CALABAR (CONVERSEER) – In what was seen as a blessing ahead of 2026, a little bit of havoc followed on as flashes of flood were recorded in Calabar, Cross River State capital, following the rainfall on New Year’s Eve, 31st December 2025.

Converseer reports that the rain, which started at about 8 PM, was heavy with breeze and lasted for about 30 minutes.

After the rain, places such as Mobil by MCC, Calabar Municipality by Obame Ikoya, Effio-Ette Junction, Ibok Street, Ikot Eyo, Goldie by Target, and other areas were flooded.

Vehicles were forced to drive one-way to avoid breaking down in the middle of the flood.

Residents decried the government’s negligence in channelling these waters properly, as this has been the fate of residents and commuters over the years.

Meanwhile, some attribute the rainfall at this time of year to climate change. In December alone, Calabar recorded over 10 downpours, distributed across the month, Converseer reports.
