OWERRI (CONVERSEER) – The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of Hon. Ngozi Ogbu, a former lawmaker who represented Okigwe State Constituency in the State House of Assembly, and announced that tactical operations are underway to secure his release.

According to a statement issued on Sunday, 14th September 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Okoye Henry, Ogbu was kidnapped on 7th September at Onuimo by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

A viral video circulating on social media earlier showed the politician being held hostage by the suspected militants, prompting concerns over his safety.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has since ordered the immediate deployment of the Command’s tactical units to track down the perpetrators.

The operation is being carried out in collaboration with other security agencies, with a detailed investigation already launched to ensure both the rescue of the victim and the arrest of those responsible.

“The Command appeals to the general public to remain calm and vigilant. Anyone with useful information that can assist the ongoing operations should please contact the Imo State Police Command on 0803 477 3600 or report at the nearest Police Station,” the statement read.

The police assured residents of Imo State that they will not relent until the abductors are brought to justice and Hon. Ogbu is safely reunited with his family.
