WASHINGTON, D.C. (CONVERSEER) – President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order on Friday to rename the Department of Defence the “Department of War,” a White House official announced Thursday.
The move aims to leave a lasting mark on the federal government’s largest agency.
The executive order will authorise Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and department officials to use titles such as “Secretary of War,” “Department of War,” and “Deputy Secretary of War” in official correspondence and public communications, according to a White House fact sheet.
Additionally, the order directs Hegseth to propose legislative and executive steps to make the renaming permanent.
The renaming of the Department of Defence is the latest in these efforts to reshape federal institutions.
