Police arrest Navy personnel for allegedly assaulting officers

MARKUDI (CONVERSEER) – Benue State Police Command has arrested a serving Nigerian Navy personnel for allegedly assaulting police officers in Vandeikya Local Government Area of the state.

According to Zagazola, the incident occurred on Feb. 26 at about 11:00 a.m., when the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Vandeikya detailed detectives to invite the suspect over a case of alleged criminal trespass and assault.

According to the report, the suspect, who is said to be currently serving in Bayelsa State, resisted the invitation and allegedly attacked the officers, inflicting serious injuries on them.

The suspect was subsequently overpowered and arrested.

The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has commenced investigation into the matter.

Police authorities said efforts were ongoing to liaise with the appropriate Naval Base to verify the identity of the suspect and ensure due process in handling the case.

The command assured that further developments would be communicated as investigation progresses.
