Ferrari to launch first electric car in 2026 as brand embraces ‘Phygital’ future

ROME (CONVERSEER) – Ferrari is set to unveil its first fully electric vehicle, the Electtrica, at the end of 2026, ushering in a new era for the iconic Italian luxury carmaker. According to a Motor1 report published on 10 October, the release of the Electtrica marks a strategic shift as Ferrari plans to launch over a dozen new models between 2026 and 2030, blending traditional powertrains with cutting-edge electric technology.

A Diverse Powertrain Strategy

Unlike some rivals that are moving aggressively towards full electrification, Ferrari intends to maintain a diverse powertrain portfolio. The company will continue developing its V6, V8, and V12 engines, improving efficiency and ensuring compliance with tightening global emissions standards. This includes making engines compatible with alternative low-emission fuels, which many carmakers are exploring to retain the visceral appeal of internal combustion while meeting environmental targets.

Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna stated last year that gasoline engines will not vanish from the luxury market, underscoring the company’s commitment to offering traditional performance alongside electrified options.

By 2030, Ferrari expects 60% of its lineup to be electrified, with 40% hybrid and 20% fully electric. Traditional petrol-powered models will continue but will take a supporting role as the brand evolves its technological base.

‘Phygital’ Interiors Redefine Driving Experience

Beyond powertrains, Ferrari is also reimagining its interior design philosophy. The company plans to return to more tactile, driver-focused controls, combining the best of physical and digital interfaces through a “phygital” (physical + digital) concept.

This design direction debuted with the Amalfi, released in July, which introduced a redesigned steering wheel featuring physical buttons after widespread criticism of capacitive touch controls. Ferrari owners had complained that touch-sensitive surfaces were prone to accidental activations, prompting a return to more intuitive mechanical interfaces.

Electtrica Leads Ferrari’s Electric Future

The Electtrica will represent around 20% of Ferrari’s planned model lineup, though it is expected to be the only fully electric model initially. The car’s development is part of Ferrari’s broader strategy to balance electrification with heritage, ensuring that the brand’s signature performance and driving feel are preserved as it transitions towards a lower-emission future.

Industry analysts say Ferrari’s measured approach reflects the expectations of its loyal customer base, who value the brand’s legacy of engine craftsmanship but are increasingly conscious of environmental trends and regulatory shifts.
