Barcelona lost, Arsenal won, Man City held, and results for Champions League match day 2

By Frank Ulom

LONDON (CONVERSEER)Arsenal strengthened their UEFA Champions League win by a 2-0 win over Olympiacos, making it two wins in two with the same scoreline.

The talk of the match day two was a shocking defeat for Barcelona, losing 2-1 to a depleted Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) team at Spotify Camp Nou.

Also, Manchester City were pegged by Monaco despite star striker Erling Haaland scoring two goals in the first half.

In our featured game, Barcelona took the lead in the 19th minute through Ferran Torres following a crisp move after Vitinha lost the ball in the final third, and the striker, in place of Robert Lewandowski, pounced from Marcus Rashford’s precise pass.

The Spanish side threatened on several occasions but failed to double their lead. Nuno Mendes made a bursting run from the left back, dribbling past several Barcelona players before setting up 19-year-old Senny Mayulu to level it for PSG in the 38th minute.

The game seems as if it will end in a stalemate, but PSG had different plans as Achraf Hakimi, who wore the captain’s armband in place of injured Marquinhos, set up Gonzalo Ramos to win it in the 90th minute. The French side held onto their lead despite 3 minutes of added time and took all three points.

The win means PSG join the likes of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Arsenal and Qarabag, as the only teams to win their first two matches in this season’s Champions League.

PSG were also without this year’s Ballon d’Or winner, Ousmane Dembélé, and other star players like Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Désiré Doué, João Neves and captain Marquinhos.

Earlier, Newcastle won their first match, beating Belgian side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise 4-1 away from home.

Borussia Dortmund also picked up their first win, beating Spanish side Athletic Club 4-1 at Signal Iduna Park.

Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus all drew their matches while Napoli picked up their first three points, beating Sporting CP 2-1.
