BENIN (CONVERSEER) – Nigerian music legend Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba (formerly 2Face), has tied the knot traditionally with Edo State lawmaker, Natasha Osawaru, in a private ceremony.

Images and videos from the wedding surfaced on social media on Thursday, showing the couple adorned in regal traditional attire.

2Baba wore a white short-sleeved native shirt with grey embroidery, paired with a white wrapper, coral beads, white shoes, dark sunglasses, and a beaded staff. Natasha donned a striking red off-shoulder dress and the traditional Edo ‘okuku’ coral bead crown, complemented by multiple layers of beads around her neck, shoulders, and arms.

The marriage comes six months after 2Baba publicly announced his separation from actress Annie Macaulay, his wife of 12 years. Despite public scrutiny, 2Baba clarified that his relationship with Natasha had no connection to his split from Annie, describing their separation as mutual and without animosity.

Their relationship became public in February when 2Baba proposed to Natasha on Valentine’s Eve, followed by her meeting with his mother, Rose Idibia, in April. The visit drew attention after a viral video showed Mrs Idibia emotionally asking Natasha to “remove the beads” from her son, a comment interpreted as spiritual concern. However, she later gave her blessing.

Speaking on the 234 Mzansi podcast, 2Baba explained that his connection with Natasha stemmed from “emotional compatibility, not physical allure”.

He urged couples to avoid societal pressure in marriage, saying: “If a marriage is not working, the couple should try to fix it. But if it still doesn’t work, no one should be forced to stay. Only the couple inside knows what they are going through.”

Annie publicly confirmed their divorce at the 17th Headies Awards in Lagos in April. The former couple had a love story spanning two decades, beginning in 1999, which saw them welcome their first child in 2008, get engaged in 2012, and hold a star-studded wedding in Dubai in 2013. Despite renewing their vows in 2022, the marriage ended following recurring controversies involving 2Baba’s relationship with Pero Adeniyi, the mother of three of his children.

2Baba, currently serving as Technical Adviser on Entertainment and Community Outreach to Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, has urged fans and the public to respect his new chapter with Natasha.
