Ghanaian Pastor Arrested in Canada for Allegedly Stealing $100,000 Meant for Homeless People

Police in Vaughan, Ontario, have arrested Ghanaian pastor Isaac Oppong over an alleged fraud operation involving a government support programme for people facing homelessness.

Investigators claim the 38-year-old was at the centre of a 15-person group accused of submitting multiple applications with false details to access funds meant for vulnerable residents.

Authorities estimate that close to $100,000 was fraudulently obtained through the scheme between January and December 2024.

The matter reportedly surfaced after York Region officials noticed inconsistencies during an internal review, which later led to a formal investigation in April 2025.

Oppong, who is a legal resident of Canada and affiliated with Miracle Arena for All Nations Church, has been charged with fraud, identity fraud, laundering proceeds of crìme, possession of suspected stolen property, and conspiracy-related offences.

In response, the church said it had no prior knowledge of the alleged scheme and only became aware of the matter after investigators contacted them in November 2025.
