ABUJA (CONVERSEER) – A prominent farmer and public commentator, Sherriff Almuhajir PhD, has announced his decision to quit farming after his farmland was allegedly destroyed overnight by cattle said to belong to Fulani herdsmen.
He made the disclosure on Saturday via social media, expressing frustration over repeated losses and what he described as inadequate protection for farmers.
Dr Almuhajir said he woke up to discover that his entire farm had been eaten and trampled by a large herd of cattle reportedly released at night. According to him, the incident mirrors a similar destruction last year which left him with significant financial losses.
He explained that he had consistently invested effort and resources into maintaining a productive farm despite what he described as policy challenges affecting farmers across the country. He noted that last year’s complaint was dismissed as an attempt to stir conflict, adding that the latest incident had pushed him to a breaking point.
He stated that the destruction involved almost 500 cattle and accused the herders of deliberate sabotage. The farmer said ongoing threats to farmland across communities discourage agricultural investment and put farmers at risk.
Dr Almuhajir, who has been an advocate for youth participation in agriculture, said the repeated devastation had compelled him to withdraw completely from farming. He lamented the emotional and financial toll of the losses, saying he could no longer continue under such circumstances.
There was no immediate response from local authorities or security agencies regarding the latest incident.

“22-11-2025 – Everyone who follows me knows the kind of effort I put into farming. We did everything properly, and the farm was doing extremely well. Even though the government’s policies keep frustrating farmers, that did not stop us from persisting with our work.
“But this morning I woke up to the terrible news that herdsmen have completely devoured and destroyed my farm.
“Last year they did the same thing and caused me huge losses. I complained, and they said I don’t want peace. Now look, they deliberately let their cattle (almost 500 of them) loose at night, and the cows finished off my entire farm.
Honestly, I am one of those who strongly encourage people to go into farming, but if this kind of disaster is going to keep happening, where you farm and some ignorant person who doesn’t know what is lawful and what is forbidden comes and destroys everything, then as for me, from today onward, I swear I am done. I give up.” – Sherriff Almuhajir PhD
