Cross River Govt grants Fulani herdsmen access from Ebonyi

By Frank Ulom

CALABAR (CONVERSEER) – Cross River State Government has granted Fulani herdsmen access through from Ebonyi State to the Republic of Cameroon.

According to a letter by Ntufam Emmanuel Anom, Commissioner for Livestock, Aquaculture, and Fisheries Development, dated 19th November 2025, the herdsmen are moving approximately 500 cattle from Onicha in Ebonyi State.

The letter directed the Chairman of Yala Local Government Area, Hon. Fred Osim, to grant access and security for the herders and their cattle.

The letter with the reference number, ‘Our Ref: MLAFD/CRS/ADM/73/Vol 1/2’, reads:

RE: NOTIFICATION OF THE MOVEMENT/MIGRATION OF ABOUT 500 CATTLE AND THEIR OWNERS FROM ONICHA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EBONYI STATE THROUGH THE STATE TO THE REPUBLIC OF CAMEROON AND REQUEST FOR SECURITY AIDS

“I acknowledge the receipt of the letter dated 14th October 2025, by the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria on the above subject matter notifying and seeking permission for the movement of 500 cattle by Alhaji Manu Adamu Dakkidi from Onicha Local Government Area, through the state to the Republic of Cameroon.

Accordingly, we write to formally notify you that this migration will pass through your Local Government Area as it proceeds to Cameroon.

Based on the above, the Ministry has approved the said migration and graciously requests that you accord them with all the necessary assistance and security which they deserve to ease their movement.

Please accept the assurance of my esteemed regards and graciously request that you grant them all the necessary support and security which they deserve to ease their movement.”

Ntufam Emmanuel Anom, Commissioner.

NOTE: The article has been updated because there seems to be mix up in the Local Government Area and State. (Onicha instead of Onisha, and Ebonyi instead of Anambra).
