Akwa Ibom Approves 11 Executive Bills to Boost ARISE Agenda

Akwa Ibom State government has approved 11 executive bills for an onward transmission to the State House of Assembly for necessary action.

The 11 bills which included the Akwa Ibom State Hotels and Tourism Development Commission (Establishment) Bill, were approved at the State Executive Council meeting on Tuesday, April 7, at the Executive Council Chambers, Governor’s Office, Uyo, with the State Governor, Pastor  Umo Eno presiding.

Others are, the Akwa Ibom State Lottery Regulatory Agency Bill, Akwa Ibom State Senior Citizens Centre Management Agency (Establishment) Bill, Akwa Ibom Geographic Information Service Bill, Ibom Broadcasting Corporation Bill, Akwa Ibom State Honours and Award Bill, Dakadda Skills Acquisition Centre (Establishment) Bill, Water User Association (Regulation) Bill,?Office of the Public Defender Bill, Akwa Ibom State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance Systems Agency Bill and the Hospitals Management Board (Amendment) Bill.

In a statement on the resolution of the meeting by the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Aniekan Umanah, the Governor – In – Council directed the transmission of the approved draft bills to the State House of Assembly for legislative action.

He said that, the Executive Council’s consideration and approval of these Bills are “driven by the need to strengthen institutional frameworks, enhance service delivery, and promote sustainable socio-economic development across Akwa Ibom State.

“Collectively, the proposed legislations seek to strengthen key sectors such as tourism, broadcasting, healthcare, emergency services, and land administration, while also expanding social protection through initiatives like the Senior Citizens Centre administration and the Office of the Public Defender.

“In addition, the Bills aim to improve legal and regulatory frameworks in areas such as gaming and water resource management, stimulate skills development and job creation through the Dakadda Skills Acquisition Centre, and promote transparency, efficiency, and good governance”.

Ultimately, these measures, Umanah  said, are aligned with Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda and are intended to position the State for inclusive growth and sustainable development of the State.
