BEIJING (CONVERSEER) – According to CCTV News, on March 17 Beijing time, the bottom quark experiment group at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN announced the discovery of a new particle – the single-charged double-charm baryon.
The newly discovered single-charged double-charm baryon consists of two charm quarks and one down quark, forming a natural isospin pair with the double-charged double-charm baryon. In the peculiar microscopic world, the electromagnetic force is unusually strong, making the single-charged double-charm baryon, which contains the heavier down quark, lighter than the double-charged double-charm baryon, which contains the lighter up quark.
This is the first new particle discovered by the LHCb experiment group using the upgraded detector . This achievement was completed by Professor He Jibo of the School of Physics, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, leading three undergraduate graduates: Han Shuyu, Zhang Danyi, and Zhang Linnuo.

Professor He Jibo stated that with solid training and guidance, Chinese undergraduates are fully capable of engaging in pioneering, world-class cutting-edge research .
Precise measurements of this phenomenon will provide crucial data for a deeper understanding of the fundamental composition of matter and its interactions. Simultaneously, the discovery of this new particle will further enhance our understanding of the strong interaction and the quark model, opening new doors for the future discovery of more novel particles and the exploration of the deeper structure of matter.
