YOLA (CONVERSEER) – A High Court No. III presided over by Justice Kaynson Lawanson in Yola, Adamawa State, has sentenced a 39-year-old man, Gambo Goni, to death by hanging or lethal injection for armed robbery.
The court convicted Gambo on counts one and two and discharged him on counts three, four and five.
The judge sentenced the defendant after he was arraigned on charges of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.
The charge read that Gambo Goni (39) conspired with four others to commit robbery while armed with offensive weapons, contrary to Section 6(b) and punishable under Section 1(2)(a) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap R.11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
According to the prosecution, the convict and four others, now at large, on October 4, 2014, while armed with weapons, stormed the premises of Alhaji Lawan Suleiman, Alhaji Musa B. Umaru, Munir M.G., and Alhaji Ahmed Saibaru Shuaibu at Kofare in Yola South Local Government Area, and robbed them of money, handsets and other valuables.

Delivering judgment, Justice Kaynson Lawanson said the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and accordingly convicted the defendant.
“I hereby sentence you to death by hanging or by lethal injection until he is confirmed dead, I pray God to have mercy on you.”
