Police rescue 25 abducted women and children in Zamfara

GUSAU (CONVERSEER) – The Zamfara State Police Command has rescued 25 abducted residents of Kuraje village in Damba, Gusau Local Government Area, following a coordinated operation involving multiple security units.

The victims, consisting of 10 women and 15 children, were taken by armed bandits during an attack on Friday night.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the incident occurred at about 9:45 p.m. on 21 November 2025, when armed bandits stormed the community, shooting sporadically before escaping with the victims.

Abubakar said patrol teams from Damba Division, the Department of Operations in Gusau, and the Community Protection Guards (CPG) responded immediately after receiving the distress call.

He noted that the combined team tracked the fleeing assailants and engaged them in a strategic operation that led to the safe recovery of all abducted persons.

According to him, the security teams displayed high professionalism and bravery throughout the operation. He confirmed that all 25 victims were rescued unhurt, moved to Sabongari Damba for safety and proper profiling, and later reunited with their families.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, praised the officers for their swift reaction and assured residents of the command’s continued efforts to safeguard communities across Zamfara State.
