CALABAR (CONVERSEER) – A legal firm, Goldminds Legal Consult, has petitioned the Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, over a brutal attack on a client, allegedly carried out by a staff member of the State Government and several others.
The law firm, in a petition dated 5th July 2025 and signed by P. B. Aboh Esq., alleged that one Mr Godknows Aho Amatey, an employee of the Cross River State Accountant General’s Office, conspired with five others to brutalise their client, Mr Ransome Anock Ojah.
According to the petition, the heinous act happened on 3rd July 2024 while the victim, who is in a critical condition at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), was on his way to the farm in Ikom.
The petition, which detailed the account of the event, is seeking the urgent arrest and prosecution of Mr Godknows Aho Amatey, Mr Sunday Aho Amatey, Mr Ikenga Adem Erim, Mr Annovu Sunday Aho, and Mr Amatey Otei Amatey for their alleged involvement in the attempted murder of Ojah.
According to the petition, “On 2nd July 2024, the trio of Mr Godknows Aho Amatey, Mr Sunday Aho Amatey, and Mr Ikenga Adem Erim, known cultists, held a meeting at Mr Godknows Aho Amatey’s residence to plan the execution of this heinous act.
“During the meeting, they armed Mr Ikenga Adem Erim with a gun and a machete, and assured him that nothing would happen, boasting that they control the village.
“Godknows Aho Amatey, an employee of the Accountant General’s office, further encouraged Mr Ikenga Adem Erim by stating that he makes a substantial amount of money weekly and that financial resources would not be a problem as money he makes in a week or two can settle any matter, so he should not be worried.
“The next day, our client, oblivious of what lies ahead of him, accepted a ride from Master Annovu Sunday, who dropped him off at a location where Mr Ikenga Adem Erim was waiting in ambush. Mr Ikenga Adem Erim ambushed and shot our client on the head at point blank and cutting him severally using a machete inflicting severe and deadly injuries on his head, face, neck hand and other parts of his body and leaving him for dead (sic).
“Mr Sunday Aho Amatey, who conspired with the suspect, hid Mr Ikenga Adem Erim from the authorities and bragged about his ability to ‘buy off everybody, including the police and courts.’
“Godknows Aho Amatey has actively stalled the investigation by concealing Mr Ikenga Adem Erim and other parties involved.”
The petitioner further urged the police to, “Investigate this matter urgently and thoroughly. Arrest and prosecute all parties involved, including Mr Godknows Aho Amatey, Mr Sunday Aho Amatey, Mr Ikenga Adem Erim, Mr Annovu Sunday Aho and Amatey Otei Amatey.”
