CALABAR (NAN, CONVERSEER) – Prof. Florence Obi, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has disclosed that recent development strides in the institution were achieved because staff gave their best.

Obi made the remark at the 2025 Staff Meritorious Service Award held at the Senator Godswill Akpabio International Conference Centre in UNICAL on Thursday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that over 150 staff were being honoured across twenty-one categories, including a new Vice-Chancellor’s Special Award for Outstanding Staff.

The VC said her administration, supported by dedicated staff, has lifted UNICAL into the league of top universities in the country.

She noted that the institution has grown stronger and more progressive since the start of her tenure.

Highlighting achievements, she said “students can now access results easily, move safely on campus, enjoy improved road networks and smoother transport.

“Hostel spaces have increased and several abandoned projects, including thirty-two lock-up stores, have been completed and commissioned,” she said.

Speaking further, Obi said the university now enjoys about twenty hours of electricity daily, boosting academic and administrative work.
