Tshegofatso Mabasa joins Stellenbosch from Orlando Pirates

CAPE TOWN (CONVERSEER) – Orlando Pirates have confirmed that striker Tshegofatso Mabasa will spend the remainder of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season on loan at Stellenbosch FC.

The 29‑year‑old forward, who has struggled for regular game time under head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou this season, will join the Cape Winelands side in a bid to rediscover form and consistency.

Mabasa’s move comes after limited appearances for the Soweto giants, with the prolific marksman featuring just nine times in all competitions and scoring four goals so far this campaign.

For Stellies, now coached by Gavin Hunt, the acquisition adds much‑needed firepower as they battle in the lower reaches of the table. The Cape club will be hoping Mabasa’s proven goalscoring pedigree can help steer them away from relegation trouble.

While the deal is officially a loan, Pirates’ recent history of selling players after they return from temporary moves could signal that this may be the final chapter in Mabasa’s time with the Buccaneers.

Mabasa, who has previously had loan spells at Sekhukhune United and Moroka Swallows, will now look to reignite his career in Stellenbosch colours before returning to Pirates at season’s end.
