JOS (CONVERSEER) – The Nigerian Army troops of 3 Division of Operation Lafiyan Jama’a have rescued four abducted persons and neutralised a kidnapper during an ambush operation in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to Zagazola Makama, the operation followed intelligence on the abduction of four persons at Rimi village in Jere District of Bassa LGA.
The sources explained that at about 3:28 AM on Friday, troops of Sector 1 of the operation deployed from Jingre and laid an ambush along the suspected withdrawal route of the kidnappers.
“During the operation, the troops made contact with the kidnappers and exchanged fire, forcing them to abandon the four victims and flee,” the sources said.
They added that troops subsequently exploited the general area and discovered the corpse of one kidnapper neutralised during the encounter.

Items recovered from the fleeing kidnappers included one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and 13 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
According to the sources, the rescued victims were debriefed and later reunited with their families, while efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the remaining members of the kidnapping gang.
They noted that no casualty was recorded on the side of the troops, adding that morale and fighting efficiency of personnel remain satisfactory.
