ABUJA (CONVERSEER) – Senate President Godswill Akpabio has appealed for the exemption of Federal Lawmakers in the presidential directive to withdraw police officers from VIPs.
Akpabio made the appeal during the 2026 budget defence by President Bola Tinubu on Thursday.
Recall that President Tinubu had issued a directive, withdrawing police officers from Very Important Persons (VIPs), stating that anyone in need of security should contact the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The Senate President also commended President Tinubu’s swift response to defend democracy in neighbouring countries.
“Nations advance when the executive and legislature work together.
“The 2026 Appropriation Bill is a roadmap for the next phase of national renewal. Public Finance is being managed with greater discipline and transparency,” Akpabio stated.

On his part, President Tinubu disclosed that the 2026 budget presents a defining moment in the national journey of reform and transformation.
The 2026 Appropriation Bill is christened “Budget of Consolidation, Renewed Resilience and Shared Prosperity.”
Converseer reports that key areas of the budget include Defence and Security = ₦5.41trillion; Infrastructure = ₦3.56 trillion; Education = ₦3.52 trillion; Health and Social Services = ₦2.48 trillion.
