BIRNIN KEBBI (CONVERSEER) – Security operatives have intensified search and rescue efforts following the abduction of 25 students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko District of Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Monday, 17th November 2025, when armed bandits reportedly invaded the school at about 4:00 AM.
According to a statement by that Police Public Relations Officer in Kebbi, CSP Nafiu Abubakar Kotarkoshi, the attackers, armed with sophisticated weapons, fired shots indiscriminately while advancing towards the students’ hostel.
Police tactical units deployed in the school engaged the bandits in a gun battle, but the attackers had already breached the perimeter fence and taken away the students to an unknown location.
During the attack, one civilian, identified as Hassan Makuku (Vice Principal of the school), was shot dead, while another individual, Ali Shehu, sustained a gunshot injury to his right hand.

The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed that additional tactical units, military personnel, and vigilantes have since been deployed to the area. The combined team is currently combing suspected bandits’ routes and nearby forests in a coordinated operation aimed at rescuing the abducted students and apprehending the perpetrators.
Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani, condemned the incident and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state. He appealed to residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and report suspicious movements as efforts to restore normalcy continue.
