The attention of Professor Chris Ekong, a contender in the ongoing process for the selection of the next Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO), has been drawn to a false and misleading report circulating on social media claiming that he has already been elected Vice-Chancellor.
Professor Ekong wishes to state emphatically that no such election or selection has taken place. He describes the rumour as “a desperate fabrication by mischief-makers and enemies of progress who believe that peddling falsehood would provoke the University authorities and the government into acting against me.”
He notes that he is as surprised as members of the public by the circulation of the fake news, stressing that he is not desperate for the office and has never engaged in underhanded tactics. According to him, his interest in the Vice Chancellorship is guided strictly by due process, respect for the rules, and submission to constituted authority.

Professor Ekong, therefore, urges the general public, the University community, stakeholders, and well-meaning Nigerians to disregard and discountenance the fake report in its entirety. He reiterates his confidence in the integrity of the selection process and calls for calm and patience as the University Senate and Governing Council continue with the legitimate procedure.
He assures the public that when the University of Uyo officially concludes the process and announces the next Vice Chancellor, it will be done openly, transparently, and through the proper channels, not through anonymous social media propaganda.
