ABUJA (CONVERSEER) – Finally, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has opened the recruitment portal for 50,000 police constables, launching a nationwide exercise that begins on Monday, 15 December 2025.

According to The Whistler, the announcement follows President Bola Tinubu’s directive to expand the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and reinforce community policing efforts through increased manpower.

PSC Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Torty Kalu, confirmed the commencement of the exercise.

He stated, “The recruitment portal will be open from Monday, 15 December 2025 to Sunday, 25 January 2026.”

The Commission structured the process into two applicant categories: the general duty cadre and the specialists’ cadre.

According to Kalu, “General Duty cadre applicants must be holders of GCE Ordinary Level, SSCE/NECO or their equivalents with a minimum of five credits (including English Language and Mathematics) in not more than two sittings.”

He added that the specialist stream requires different academic qualifications, noting, “Specialists cadre applicants must be holders of GCE Ordinary Level, SSCE/NECO or their equivalents with a minimum of four credits (including English Language and Mathematics) in not more than two sittings.”

Beyond academic requirements, the specialist category also demands experience, with applicants expected to have at least “three years of practice and relevant trade tests.”

Kalu also outlined the general eligibility standards for the exercise.

He said candidates must “Be Nigerian citizens by birth; aged between 18 and 25 years for General Duty; 18 to 28 years for Specialists; medically, physically and psychologically fit, not be less than 1.67m (male) and 1.64m (female) in height (for General Duty only).”

The Commission directed all submissions to be made through the official application portal: http://www.npfapplication.psc.gov.ng/

PSC stressed that the recruitment would follow a transparent and merit-based process, clarifying that no payment is required at any stage.

“Application is free as there will be no payment required at any stage of the process, and applicants are warned to be wary of fraudsters,” Kalu warned.

The Commission encouraged qualified Nigerians to apply, describing the exercise as an opportunity for citizens willing to serve the country.
