LAGOS (CONVERSEER) – The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained popular social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, following a viral video showing him engaging in reckless driving that resulted in a serious road crash while live-streaming the incident.
In a statement issued on Monday, the police confirmed that the 20-year-old suspect was taken into custody after the video, which surfaced online on Sunday, 14 December 2025, sparked public outrage. The footage showed Hamzat driving at high speed in a dangerous manner, endangering his life and that of other road users before crashing.
The Command described the act as a deliberate and unlawful behaviour that posed grave risks to public safety, adding that the suspect’s actions amounted to an attempted suicide and a serious breach of road traffic regulations.

According to the police, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where a comprehensive investigation is currently ongoing. The outcome of the investigation, the Command said, will be made public, and the suspect will be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction in accordance with the law.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a strong warning to social media influencers, content creators, and members of the public against using digital platforms to promote or engage in reckless, dangerous, or criminal conduct.

CP Jimoh emphasised that acts capable of causing loss of life, public disorder, or breaches of peace would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He added that the Command would apply the full weight of the law to offenders, regardless of their social status or online following.
The Lagos State Police Command further urged all road users to strictly adhere to traffic laws and safety regulations, reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives, maintaining public order, and ensuring safety across the state.
