CALABAR (CONVERSEER) – The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old suspected armed robber in Calabar, recovering a firearm, ammunition, and hard drugs in the process.
In a statement issued on Friday, 15th August 2025, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Ugbo Irene, said the arrest followed a distress call received at about 10:47 AM from a community leader at Edim Otop Street, Calabar Municipality.
According to the police, the suspect, identified as Daniel Etim Udoh, allegedly robbed and stabbed his victim, Sunday Ofem of No. 6 Boropit, Satellite Town. The Command’s Anti-Cultism Squad was immediately mobilised and apprehended the suspect at the scene.

A search conducted on Udoh led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, one live cartridge, a pair of scissors suspected to have been used in the attack, assorted hard drugs, and other incriminating items.

The statement further disclosed that upon arrival at the police station, the suspect attempted to escape during interrogation but was shot in the left leg to prevent his flight.
“He was subsequently re-arrested. Both the suspect and his victim were taken to the police clinic, where they are currently responding to treatment.
“Meanwhile, investigations into the incident have commenced,” the statement added.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid Afegbua, commended the officers for their swift response and reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements.
Afegbua also urged residents to continue partnering with the police by providing timely and credible information.
