OBUBRA (CONVERSEER) – Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has called on corps members deployed to the state to embark on impactful community development projects that would leave lasting legacies in their host communities.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch B Stream I corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Obubra, on Saturday, the Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Ijom Ukam, urged the corps members to actively contribute to nation-building and economic development.

He cited the achievements of past corps members who recently won the NYSC Presidential Honours Award in Abuja as examples of dedication and innovation worth emulating.

Otu also appealed to corps members to strictly adhere to camp rules and regulations and embrace skill acquisition programmes offered by the NYSC.

He encouraged them to prioritise entrepreneurship, saying: “Take advantage of the skills acquisition training to become job creators rather than job seekers.”

Earlier in her welcome address, NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Oyenuga Joke, expressed appreciation to Governor Otu and his entourage for attending the ceremony.

She congratulated the corps members on their successful completion of academic programmes and praised their discipline and quick adaptation to camp life.

Mrs Joke urged the corps members to take full advantage of the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) training, describing it as a pathway to self-reliance.

The oath of allegiance was administered by Magistrate S.O. Orji, representing the Chief Judge of Cross River State, Justice Akoh Ikpeme, who charged the corps members to uphold the principles of the National Youth Service and contribute positively to their places of primary assignment.

Some corps members expressed excitement over the ceremony, pledging to contribute their quota to the growth and development of the state.
