AWKA (CONVERSEER) – Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has unveiled the official portrait of its 5th substantive Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha.

The portrait, according to the management of the University marks a transition from the previous one and now rightly bears the title Vice Chancellor, not Acting Vice Chancellor.

“As we step forward under her stewardship, this new portrait stands as a symbol of continuity, progress, and hope for the future of COOU,” the management said in a statement.

The portrait was unveiled on Tuesday, 19th August 2025.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor identified welfare as a top priority in her administration, declaring that addressing it would be the greatest achievement for the institution.

She made this statement during her official welcome ceremony on 12th August 2025, at the university’s main campus.

Speaking to staff, students, and dignitaries, Prof. Omenugha stressed that no academic institution can thrive without the well-being of its people.

She explained that welfare, covering both staff motivation and student support, forms the backbone of productivity, innovation, and a healthy academic environment.

According to her, tackling welfare issues means ensuring that the university’s workforce is adequately supported, facilities are improved, and students have the resources they need to excel.

“When welfare is in place, excellence becomes inevitable,” she said, reaffirming her commitment to making COOU a place where every stakeholder feels valued.

The Vice-Chancellor assured the university community that her leadership would prioritise listening to concerns, creating practical solutions, and ensuring transparency in all welfare-related policies.

She urged both staff and students to work with her in building a supportive and collaborative environment.
