Oba of Benin suspends Chief Priest of Ovia Shrine

BENIN CITY (CONVERSEER) – His Royal Majesty Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku-Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II M, the Oba of Benin, has suspended the Chief Priest of Uviamen village, Chief Sunday Sidney Enoma, in Ovia North East Local Government Area.

Converseer reports that Chief Enoma’s suspension was contained in a press statement signed by Chief Press Secretary to Oba Ewuare II, Osaigbovo Iguobaro, on Friday.

Chief Enoma was the Ohen-Ovia (Chief Priest) of Unuamen.

According to the statement, the Chief Priest was suspended for violating the customs and traditions of the Benin Kingdom.

The statement added that the Oba of Benin reaffirmed Chief Kingsley Igbinosa as the Okao (traditional head) of Unuamen Village.

It also said the suspended Chief Priest lacked the powers to install the Okao of the village.

The statement said all Chieftaincy titles in the Benin kingdom were conferred by the Oba of Benin.
