YENAGOA (CONVERSEER) – A serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Brown-Ofoeme EbubeChukwu, has shocked the country with his renovation of a 4-classroom block and staff room of a local school in Swali, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
EbubeChukwu, a graduate of Criminology and Security Studies at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Anambra State, could not stand the suffering of the pupils and staff of Community Primary School Swali.

When posted to the school as his place of primary assignment (PPA), the Corps member took it upon himself to put a smile on the faces of the pupils and staff.
During his service year, EbubeChukwu undertook the remarkable community development project, which has earned him widespread recognition, including the title of “Uncommon Citizen” by national observers.

“Moved by the deplorable condition of the primary school, where children were often drenched by rain during class due to a leaking roof, he decided to take action.
“His intervention led to the complete renovation of a four-classroom block at and a staff room. The renovation involved re-roofing the entire structure, installing PVC ceilings, replacing 9 doors and 24 windows, and repainting the building to restore a conducive learning environment,” a staff member said.

Converseer learned that EbubeChukwu didn’t stop there, he also donated 200 exercise books to pupils, carried out free medical outreach and empowered women.
“In addition to the infrastructure upgrade, Brown-Ofoeme also organised medical outreach programmes for the local community, donated over 200 exercise books to pupils, and empowered women through vocational training initiatives,” the staff added.
Responding, the management of COOU said EbubeChukwu’s gesture aligns with the institution’s philosophy of excellence in character and learning.
“His passion for social impact is rooted in his days at COOU, where he served as the President of the Department of Criminology and Security Studies and was also an active correspondent for COOUNEWS. His leadership journey, cultivated within the walls of our institution, continues to bear fruit in meaningful ways.
“This aligns strongly with the vision of our Ag. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, who has continually emphasised the importance of social capital—encouraging both staff and students to use their networks, skills, and passions to drive impact wherever they find themselves.
“We wholeheartedly celebrate Brown-Ofoeme EbubeChukwu for representing the spirit and values of COOU. He is a true ambassador of the University’s commitment to nation-building, innovation, and excellence,” a statement by COOU management stated.
