NYCN Yakurr chapter suspends Ugep Urban president, appoints interim leadership

By John Arikpo

UGEP (CONVERSEER) – The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Yakurr Chapter, has suspended Elder (Comr.) Sunday Otoh Arikpo from his position as President of NYCN Ugep Urban, with immediate effect.

The suspension follows a general congress of Ugep Urban members, where the majority voted in favour of his removal, based on findings from a Fact-Finding Committee investigating a petition by Comr. (Mrs) Sarah Nsot.

The Chapter Coordinator, Comr. Ekpe Balimwor, confirmed that the suspension will last seven (7) months, subject to review. “During this period, Comr. Arikpo is to hand over all official documents and properties and is barred from any Council-related duties. He has also been cautioned against actions that may undermine the peace, unity, and integrity of the NYCN.”

Comr. (Mrs) Sarah Nsot, the former Vice President, has been appointed Interim President to ensure smooth leadership continuity.

Addressing circulating rumours, the Chapter leadership emphasised that the suspension is strictly an internal union matter. No politician or traditional ruler of Yakurr is involved, and all stakeholders are urged to respect and uphold the decision of the union leadership.

When approached by newsmen, Comr. Balimwor declined to grant interviews, reiterating that NYCN matters are handled internally and administratively.

“The Council remains committed to justice, accountability, and transparent leadership. All stakeholders are urged to respect the decision and support the transition process for the sake of unity and organisational order,” the statement said.

“The NYCN Yakurr Chapter reaffirmed its commitment to discipline, due process, and youth development across the local government area.”
