Nigeria thrash Mozambique to reach AFCON quarter-finals

FES (CONVERSEER) – Nigeria have strengthened their grip on the 2025 AFCON trophy with a big win against Mozambique on Monday in Fes, Morocco.

The Super Eagles, who won all their group stage matches, put four past The Mambas to advance to the last eight.

Nigeria drew the first blood when Ademola Lookman collected Akor Adams’ pass and hit a rocket past Ernan in the 20th minute.

Since the Eagles tested blood, they never seem to stop.

Victor Osimhen made it 2-0 in the 25th minute, following a fine move which saw Alex Iwobi split The Mambas’ defence in half to find Lookman with his pass. The former’s cross was diverted by Adams into the path of Osimhen who tapped it into the back of the net.

The third goal came 47 minutes in the second half, with Osimhen finishing an incredible run by Lookman to take the game beyond the Mozambicans.

Adams completed the rout in the 75th minute with a thunderous strike past Ernan, to make it 4-0.

The win means Nigeria will face either Algeria or the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the quarter-finals.

Mozambique, on the other hand, join the likes of Tunisia, South Africa, and others, back home.
