CALABAR (CONVERSEER) – The Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Cross River State Command, Morrison Ogbonna, has been found dead in his hotel room in Calabar.

Converseer gathered that Ogbonna was found dead on Thursday, 18th September 2025, by his officers, who came to pick him up for a scheduled assignment.

A source who pleaded anonymity said the Commander’s dead body was discovered this morning after several knocks on his hotel door returned no answer.

“This morning, some officers were in the hotel where he slept to pick him up, and when they didn’t hear from him, they went to his room.

“It was on knocking without success that they drew the attention of the hotel management, who opened his room and found him dead,” the anonymous source said.

The spruce added that the Commander was transferred last month (August) to Cross River to replace Rachel Umebuali.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Cross River State, SP Irene Ugbo-Obase confirmed the report of the death to be true.

According to her, “I can confirm to you that it is true, but what led to the death is what I can’t readily tell you.”

Converseer reports that Ogbonna’s dead body was the fourth to be discovered in the Calabar metropolis in the last month. The first was a teenager, who was found headless behind the Cross River Basin Authority at Ikot Effanga Mkpa in August.

The second was that of an unidentified person found at the entrance of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Secretariat, Murtala Mohammed Highway, while the third was at Marian.
