NEW YORK (CONVERSEER) – The Wall Street Journal recently reported that SpaceX is launching a new round of secondary stock sales. If the transaction is completed, its valuation could double to $800 billion, surpassing OpenAI to become the most valuable private company in the United States. At the same time, SpaceX executives have clearly stated that the company is evaluating the possibility of an initial public offering (IPO) in 2026.

Elon Musk denied on Saturday that SpaceX was raising funds at an $800 billion valuation, but did not respond to reports that the company planned to sell internal shares.

In a post on his social media platform X, Musk stated, “There has been a lot of press claiming
SpaceX is raising money at $800B, which is not accurate.

“SpaceX has been cash flow positive for many years and does periodic stock buybacks twice a year to provide liquidity for employees and investors.

“Valuation increments are a function of progress with Starship and Starlink and securing global direct-to-cell spectrum that greatly increases our addressable market.

“And one other thing that is arguably most significant by far.”

Musk further stated that something even more important than the $800 billion valuation is the company itself. He said, “While I have great fondness for NASA, they will constitute less than 5% of our revenue next year. Commercial Starlink is by far our largest contributor to revenue. Some people have claimed that SpaceX gets “subsidized” by NASA. This is absolutely false. The SpaceX team won the NASA contracts because we offered the best product at the lowest price. BOTH best product AND lowest cost. With regard to astronaut transport, SpaceX is currently the only option that passes NASA safety standards.

As the world’s most prolific rocket launcher, SpaceX dominates the space industry with its Falcon 9 rocket, which can send satellites and personnel into orbit. Furthermore, SpaceX is a leader in low Earth orbit (LEO) internet services through its Starlink system. Starlink consists of over 9,000 satellites, far surpassing competitors such as Amazon’s LEO service.

SpaceX is currently developing a new Starship launch vehicle. This vehicle, touted as “the most powerful rocket ever,” can carry a large number of Starlink satellites, as well as transport cargo and personnel to the moon, with the ultimate goal of reaching Mars.
