KANO (CONVERSEER) – A mother identified as Fatima Abubakar and her six children have been murdered in Kano, North-Eastern Nigeria.

Converseer learned that the incident occurred on Saturday after gunmen broke into their home at Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters in Kano Municipal Local Government Area.

The deceased bodies were discovered by neighbours who broke into the house and later raised an alarm.

The victims were later evacuated from the scene and taken to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano, where medical personnel confirmed their deaths.

Confirming the news, the Kano State Police Command said it received a distress call at about 12:10 PM on 17th January 2025.

Kiyawa said ACP Wada Jarma, Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), was directed to lead the probe.

He said the victims were assaulted with dangerous weapons after unknown gunmen invaded the house.

“Upon receiving the report, the commissioner of police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, immediately deployed a tactical police team to the scene. L

“The team was led by the deputy commissioner of police in charge of operations, DCP Lawal Isah Mani,” Kiyawa said.

Mourning the victims, Abba Kabir Yusuf, directs the Police to bring the perpetrators to book.

Yusuf described the incident as barbaric, senseless and a grave assault on human dignity.

According to a statement signed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Saturday, Yusuf prayed that Allah grant the departed eternal rest and give their loved ones the fortitude to bear the painful loss.

He described the murder of a mother and her innocent children as unacceptable and vowed that his administration would not allow such a heinous crime to go unpunished.

“The Governor has directed the Kano State Police Command to immediately hunt down the perpetrators and ensure they are arrested and prosecuted, warning that anyone found culpable will face the full wrath of the law.

“Governor Yusuf also ordered the Kano Neighbourhood Corps to intensify patrols and community surveillance across vulnerable areas, as part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen grassroots security and prevent a recurrence of such tragedy.

“He called on residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and promptly report suspicious activities, assuring that the government remains fully committed to protecting lives and property,” the statement added.

Converseer reports that the three suspects have been arrested in link to the murder.
