Manchester United booed after home defeat to 10-man Everton

OLD TRAFFORD (CONVERSEER) – Manchester United endured another damaging Premier League setback on Monday as they fell 1-0 at home to Everton, who played almost the entire match with 10 men.

The atmosphere at Old Trafford turned sour as the final whistle approached, with supporters loudly booing a United side that lacked imagination, urgency, and conviction throughout.

Everton had begun the match with greater purpose, forcing United deep into their own half and dictating the early tempo. But the visitors were reduced to 10 men in extraordinary circumstances in the 13th minute when Idrissa Gueye was sent off after confronting his team-mate Michael Keane.

The midfielder twice raised his arms to Keane’s face in frustration moments after Casemiro registered United’s first effort on target, leaving referee Tony Harrington with no option but to dismiss him. It was a rare and remarkable moment, recalling the notorious 2005 altercation between Kieron Dyer and Lee Bowyer that resulted in both players being sent off for Newcastle.

Instead of crumbling, Everton regrouped impressively, maintaining their organisation and intensity. Their reward came through a moment of brilliance from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who held off Bruno Fernandes and Leny Yoro before unleashing a powerful long-range strike that soared into the top corner.

United dominated possession after the opener but remained ineffective in the final third. Patrick Dorgu and Amad Diallo both struck wide from promising positions, while Fernandes saw a dangerous attempt tipped over by Jordan Pickford.

Despite Ruben Amorim making several tactical adjustments in the second half, United’s struggles persisted, with the team failing to generate the creativity or belief required to break down Everton’s disciplined defensive structure.

The defeat denied United the chance to climb into fifth following favourable results elsewhere. Instead, they remain marooned in 10th place, raising fresh concerns about the team’s direction after what had appeared to be positive momentum in October and early November.
