Man arrested after wife’s body found in boot of car at Brackenhurst shopping centre

BRACKENHURST (CONVERSEER) – A 42-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of his wife after her body was discovered in the boot of her car at the Bracken Square Shopping Centre in Brackenhurst, on the East Rand.

The woman had been reported missing on Friday, 9 January 2026, when a friend filed a missing person report at the Alberton police station.

Later that day at around 6 p.m., police from Brackendowns SAPS located her white BMW 3-Series parked at the shopping centre with her body inside the boot. The vehicle was registered in the victim’s name.

Two men looking for work reported finding the body after they were lured into driving the car by a stranger earlier in the day; their suspicion grew when the man failed to return as planned, prompting them to inspect the vehicle.

Police said the victim had suffered multiple stab wounds, and a forensic search of the couple’s home uncovered bloodstains, which investigators are treating as part of the ongoing murder inquiry.

The husband was traced and arrested by members of the SAPS Serious and Violent Crimes Investigation unit on Saturday, 10 January 2026.

He is expected to appear in the Alberton Magistrates’ Court today, Monday, 12 January 2026, facing charges that include murder and concealing a crime.

Local authorities have appealed to anyone with further information to come forward as the investigation continues.
