“I warmly welcome us all to the Senate Chambers of the University of Calabar for the inauguration of the 196 Rural Development Officers (SSA-RDOs), who were recently appointed by His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Otu.

“If you listen to Mr President’s New Year’s address, in one of the paragraphs, he emphasised and spoke about the rural development programme. So, you are the ones to work with the Cross River state governor and the people of your ward to ensure that the mandate is fulfilled.

“By the grace of God, this initiative is one that flows from the top to bottom. It is to ensure that the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda positively impacts all the political wards we have in the 36 states and the FCT.

“You have been appointed to be the eyes and ears of the governor at the ward levels. One other responsibility of yours is to work with critical stakeholders at the local levels to ensure that there is peace in your respective wards,” he added.

Highlight of the occasion, which was witnessed by representatives of the Nigeria Police, DSS and the NSCDC, was the administration of the oath of office upon the appointees.
