BAMAKO (CONVERSEER) – Assimi Goïta has appointed members of Mali’s newly created Observatory for Peace and National Reconciliation, a body tasked with supervising the rollout of the National Charter for Peace and Reconciliation adopted in 2025 after the Inter-Malian Dialogue.
The Observatory will be led by former Prime Minister Ousmane Issoufi Maïga, who previously headed the Charter’s drafting committee. Other key figures named to the body include former Foreign Affairs Minister Zeïni Moulaye, former Minister for Political and Institutional Reforms Fatoumata Sékou Dicko, and religious leader Thierno Hady Thiam, alongside representatives from political, administrative, religious and civil society groups.
The establishment of the Observatory follows the 2024 Inter-Malian Dialogue convened after transitional authorities withdrew from the 2015 Algiers Peace Agreement framework.
Those consultations produced the new Charter, designed as a national reference document on social cohesion, security and reconciliation.
Structured into multiple chapters, it outlines political and institutional reforms aimed at reinforcing unity and peaceful coexistence.
The Observatory is mandated to track implementation, evaluate commitments, and advise authorities, as Mali continues efforts to strengthen political stability and security nationwide.
