ABUJA (CONVERSEER) – The Federal Government has released N3.7 billion to an estimated 2,000 beneficiaries under the Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Fund (TISSF), a programme designed to strengthen the nation’s tertiary education workforce.
In a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade, the ministry confirmed that staff across 43 universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education benefited from the latest phase of the intervention.
According to the ministry, 17 per cent of the funds went to academic staff, while 83 per cent was allocated to non-academic staff. The gender ratio of beneficiaries stands at 83 per cent male and 17 per cent female. The ministry noted the disparity and pledged to boost female participation in subsequent disbursements.
Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, said the successful rollout of the support fund demonstrates the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to improving welfare and productivity in the education sector. He described the TISSF as a direct investment in the workforce responsible for sustaining Nigeria’s higher institutions.
