MEXICO CITY (CONVERSEER) – Emma Coronel, the wife of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, has drawn fresh attention online after posting a Christmas photograph that many believe signals a new personal chapter beyond her past.
The former beauty queen, 36, shared the image through an Instagram story, showing herself in the middle of a snow-covered forest wearing a winter jacket, hat, earmuffs, and gloves.
The post has been interpreted as a public declaration that she is continuing to move forward with her life after years of controversy tied to her marriage to Guzmán, who has been imprisoned since 2019 and is serving a life sentence at age 68. Unlike earlier social media appearances, Coronel left comments enabled, sparking a surge of reactions from followers, including “Beautiful,” “Gorgeous,” “You slayed,” and “Snow beauty.”
Coronel, who has previously shared photographs with her twin daughters, María Joaquina and Emali Guadalupe, appears increasingly willing to present a more family-centred image to the public. Analysts note that her recent activity reflects a deliberate effort to reshape her identity and distance herself from the criminal associations that defined her past.

Her marriage to Guzmán began when she was a teenager. She met him at 17 and married shortly after turning 18. Their relationship was closely tied to the world of drug trafficking, culminating in her arrest on 22 February 2021.
Later that year, she pleaded guilty after reaching an agreement with United States authorities and admitted to aiding in cartel operations and assisting Guzmán’s 2014 escape from the Puente Grande maximum-security prison, also known as El Altiplano.
The period following her conviction was dominated by legal proceedings, heavy media scrutiny, and personal isolation. Today, her public appearances are interpreted as signs of resilience and an attempt to rebuild a calmer, more approachable persona.
According to reporting by El Heraldo de México, her Christmas photo symbolises a new beginning, shared at a time when she continues working to move forward with her daughters while Guzmán remains incarcerated.
