BAKASSI (CONVERSEER) – The closing ceremony of the maiden Governor Otu’s Bakassi Grassroot Cup is set to receive high-profile guests this Sunday, November 30, 2025, as the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Peter Odey, and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Chief (Dr) Emmanuel Ironbar, have confirmed their intention to attend the much-anticipated finale at the Ekpri Ikang Field, Bakassi LGA.
The tournament, which kicked off on November 16, has captured the attention and admiration of residents across Bakassi.
Organised by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Mr Andrea Ekeng, under the New Wave Bakassi Front, the competition has been widely commended as a strategic intervention to unite young people, curb restiveness, and promote sporting talent within the area.
Played across all wards and zones in Bakassi, the tournament has showcased remarkable grassroots enthusiasm, with each match drawing impressive crowds and renewed community spirit.
Local stakeholders describe it as “one of the most unifying events in recent times,” reflecting the rising confidence of youths in government-driven development and engagement initiatives.
As the semifinals take centre stage today, excitement is already building among youths, women, community leaders, and football lovers.
