CALABAR (CONVERSEER) – The Cross River State Government has finalised plans to relocate the famous Watt Market in Calabar, one of Nigeria’s major markets.
This was disclosed last week when the State Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Messotho Group Limited for the development of an ultra-modern market in Calabar.

Signing the document on behalf of the State Government, Dr Abigail Duke, Commissioner for Commerce, noted that the planned market would provide a more orderly and efficient environment for traders and help raise the standard of commercial infrastructure in the capital.

According to her, “The project which will be sited in Henshaw Town, Calabar South LGA, is expected to open new opportunities for businesses, strengthen local commerce and contribute to the wider transformation of the state’s economic landscape.”

The development represents a clear effort to strengthen commercial activities, improve public facilities, and support long-term economic growth across the state.
Converseer reports that the government under previous administrations, has tried relocating the now congested market but failed.
