CALABAR (CONVERSEER) – The Cross River State Government has reaffirmed that Calabar remains safe, peaceful, and fully prepared to host the National Council on Sports scheduled for this week.
The assurance follows recent reports suggesting insecurity in the state, which officials have dismissed as misleading and inconsistent with the current security situation on the ground.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the government described the speculations as unfounded, noting that the state continues to maintain one of the most stable and secure environments in the country.
The government emphasised that normal activities across Calabar and other parts of the state remain calm and orderly.
The government highlighted its recent successful hosting of the National Council on Health, which attracted the Minister of Health and several national stakeholders. The event, according to the statement, proceeded smoothly and reflected the state’s reputation for hospitality and organisational excellence.

Governor Bassey Otu’s administration was praised for strengthening the state’s security architecture, ensuring the safety of residents, visitors, and participants expected for upcoming national engagements.
The statement, signed by Linus Obogo, Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, reiterated the state’s readiness to welcome delegates, athletes, and officials for the sports meeting.
It added that Cross River remains confident in its capacity to host national and international events without security concerns.
