CALABAR (CONVERSEER) – The Cross River State Police Command has announced a line-up of activities to mark the 2026 National Police Day, with a focus on strengthening community relations and public engagement.
The announcement was made during a press briefing at the State Police Headquarters in Calabar by the Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid B. Afegbua.
The annual event, introduced in 2025, is being sustained under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu. This year’s theme, “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” highlights the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to fostering cooperation between officers and the public.
According to the Command, the week-long activities are designed to promote safety awareness, honour fallen officers, and encourage citizen participation in policing efforts.
The programme will begin on Monday, March 30, with environmental sanitation exercises across selected locations in Calabar. This will be followed by a free medical outreach for residents at Millennium Park, Eleven-Eleven Roundabout, scheduled to commence at 9:00 a.m.
On Tuesday, March 31, a walkathon will be held to promote physical fitness and strengthen police-community ties. The exercise is expected to begin at 6:00 a.m.
Public sensitisation campaigns will take place on Wednesday, April 1, focusing on the prevention of electoral violence and road safety awareness. The campaign will be conducted in front of Etim Edem Park in Calabar.
The Command will also present welfare cheques on Thursday, April 2, to families of officers who died in active service, recognising their sacrifices and contributions to national security.
The activities will conclude on April 7 with a grand ceremonial parade at Eagle Square in Abuja, expected to attract senior police officials and dignitaries from across the country.

The Police Command urged residents of Cross River State to participate actively in the events, noting that community collaboration remains essential to effective policing.
It further assured the public of its continued commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the protection of lives and property across the state.
